Mary Louise Perrine was born in Moscow, Idaho in 1913. She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1934 with a major in English literature. She also took courses in elementary education and then taught first grade on Navajo Reservations in New Mexico and Arizona. She is the author of two children's books about Navajo children, Salt Boy and Nannabah's friend .
